DiGi To Provide Better Browsing For Non-smartphone Users

PETALING JAYA, March 24 (Bernama) — DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd aims to provide better browsing for non-smartphone users by partnering with the worlds leading web browser developer, Opera Software, to co-brand Opera Mini.
DiGis head of mobile Internet and advanced data services, Praveen Rajan, said over 90 per cent of mobile phone owners in Malaysia were non-smartphone users and they deserved to enjoy the full mobile surfing experience as their counterparts.
The browser will also help the customers reduce Internet bill compare to using other browsing platforms, he told reporters after the launch of the DiGi-Opera Mini browser here today.
He said DiGi has over 4.2 million Internet users for both small and big screens and demand was expected to increase as more devices and data plans became more affordable.
Opera Software director of partner marketing/management, Sean DArcy, said those with high-end phones would still benefit from Opera Minis compression and caching technology which offered faster surfing experience and minimal wait time.
Currently, there are over 170 million users worlwide, he said.
DiGi-Opera Mini browser can be downloaded directly to their phones from http://m.opera.com from March 23 to May 31 2011 for free.
