Hit-and-run driver injures vacationing teen

ORMOND BEACH — A 16-year-old from Washington State will have more than just sand in his shoes to remember his Volusia County vacation after he was hit by a car while walking on the beach near the LaPlaya Resort and Suites in the 2400 block of State Road A1A.
The unidentified teen, who was vacationing with his family, was struck as he made his way east across the driving lanes Saturday afternoon, Beach Patrol Capt. Tamara Marris said Sunday.
The car was northbound, she said.
The vehicle struck the victim on his right side, but Marris said his injuries were not life threatening.
The driver fled but was stopped a short distance away and taken into custody.
The driver, who Marris said she was unable to identify Sunday afternoon, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with injuries.
