Charlie Brookers satirical new drama

Dec 2 2011 by Roz Laws, Sunday Mercury

BROADCASTER and writer Charlie Brooker, the man who brought us dramas like Nathan Barley and Dead Set, now has another satirical swipe at modern culture.

His three darkly comic stand-alone dramas about the way technology has transformed our lives begin with The National Anthem.

Its a political thriller in which the fictional Prime Minister Michael Callow (Rory Kinnear) faces a huge dilemma when Princess Susannah (Lydia Wilson), a much-loved member of the Royal family, is held hostage.

Her kidnappers demand that, in exchange for her release, he takes part in a shocking act to be televised around the world.
